New York Zendo offers zazen introduction to the public on Thursday evenings. Newcomers to the temple must participate in one such session before joining the community for regular zazen practice or any other scheduled event. The orientation covers the basics of zazen: posture, breathing, and concentration. Additionally, beginners will learn proper bowing, chanting, and walking meditation. No prior experience is necessary.
For all Thursday evening programs, doors open at 6:15 pm. Please arrive no later than 6:55 pm. Latecomers will not be admitted. Services will end by 9 pm. A $10 door contribution is requested; no checks can be accepted. All are welcome to attend, and no reservations are necessary.
A quiet atmosphere with minimal distractions is essential to our practice. Loose fitting clothing and subdued colors are best. Please do not wear scented cosmetics; shut off beeping watches; cell phones should be turned to silent.
We are located at 223 East 67th Street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenue.
